Friends of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have spoken out about their current relationship status after a weekend of mixed emotions.
Fans of the star crossed lovers – who originally dated from 2002 to 2004 before reuniting in 2021 and marrying the year after – were stunned to see them looking loved up and happy over the weekend, and then also emotional. The duo spent time with their kids, with snaps of them looking relaxed together sparking hopes they could be growing close again.
There has been drama for the couple this year as they drifted apart and then pulled the trigger on divorce proceedings last months. Now that new snaps have circulated showing them holding hands and kissing, fans of the pair are curious to know what exactly is going on.
But it is not good news for Bennifer shippers as the divorce is said to be going full steam ahead. It is said that 55-year-old Jenny From The Block singer and the 52-year-old Batman star are thrashing out who gets what once they go their separate ways. A source told People: “They are still moving forward with the divorce… [they are] working out financial details amicably.” Explaining the weekend photographs, the source added: “They all came together for a fun lunch so the kids could hang out.”
While Ben and Jen don’t have any children together, they share five children between them. JLo was previously married to the singer and actor Marc Anthony and she shares twins Emme and Maximilian, 16. And Ben was married to Jennifer Garner and they share three kids together, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
Ben and JLo’s divorce comes just two years after they announced their engagement. The singer shared her happy news back in April 2022, flashing a huge green rock on her finger and saying in a newsletter: “I’ve realized there are many moments in my life where amazing things happened when I was wearing green. Maybe you can remember a certain green dress.”
She later told People that she was happy to reunite with Ben, explaining, “We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. It’s a beautiful outcome that this has happened in this way at this time in our lives where we can really appreciate and celebrate each other and respect each other. We always did, but we have even more of an appreciation because we know that life can take you in different directions.”
She added, “We have been in the game in the public eye long enough to know who we are as people and what really matters and what doesn’t matter. We have kids and we respect each other. … We really live our lives in a way we can be proud of and our kids can be proud of you. We’re just operating from a place of love and respect for everyone in our lives and that is very important to us. We know what the truth is [and] we hold it sacred.”
