“Fashion is about wearing what you want and feeling confident about it” – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the most stylish basketball player in the NBA.
Born in Toronto in 1998, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander grew up in Canada in a family of athletes. His mother, Charmaine Alexander, competed as a track star for Antigua and Barbuda in the 1992 Summer Olympics, while his father coached Shai as a basketball player from a young age. At age 16, Shai transferred to high school in Tennessee to compete against more “worthy” opponents.
After graduating and playing for Kentucky in college, Shai joined the NBA in 2018. He finally found his calling – the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Besides his basketball career, this 24-year-old star also impresses people with his beautiful fashion style. The interesting thing is that every time he appears in public, his outfits are all coordinated by himself. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander does not need a stylist team, he chooses clothes according to his own preferences and feelings. His style is strongly street-inspired but also very flexible in using “trendy” items. That shows that this young talent has an aesthetic eye, the ability to mix & match clothes skillfully and catch up with trends skillfully. When asked by High Snobiety magazine what he would do if he were no longer playing in the NBA, Shai proudly replied that he would either become a model or start his own fashion brand. “ It would have to be something related to fashion! ” – Shai confided.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a special interest and love for fashion. He shares that he often watches runway shows from brands, looks at the outfits worn by the models, and can’t wait for them to go on sale.
Shai’s fashion career continues to expand, he was personally chosen by Virgil Abloh to represent the campaign between Louis Vuitton and the NBA. At the 2023 Paris Fashion Week, Shai was honored to be a guest in the front row of Givenchy and Kenzo. In the fashion world, the front row is always a place for the most powerful and influential individuals. This is a “golden position” that anyone working in the fashion industry desires to have.
On top of that, Shai also opened the Thom Browne show. “ My dream came true … From now on, call me Shai the Model! ” – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander told Vogue magazine.
